Bharat Express News Network and the Mahakavi Gopaldas Neeraj Foundation Trust are hosting a grand cultural evening in Mumbai on Wednesday, July 23, to commemorate the eighth death anniversary of legendary poet and lyricist Gopaldas ‘Neeraj’.
Titled ‘Ek Shaam, Neeraj Ke Naam’, the programme celebrates the life and legacy of one of Hindi literature’s most celebrated voices through music, poetry and heartfelt tributes. The organisers are holding the event at Rang Sharda Auditorium in Bandra West.
Presented under the theme ‘Karvan Geeton Ka… Neeraj’, the evening features musical performances and tributes showcasing Neeraj’s remarkable contribution to Hindi poetry and Indian cinema.
Bharat Express Chairman, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai is attending as the Patron, while Mrigank Prabhakar, Neeraj’s son, is organising the event.
Widely regarded as one of Hindi literature’s greatest poets, Neeraj also penned timeless classics such as Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe, Karvan Guzar Gaya, Shokhiyon Mein Ghola Jaye, and Khilte Hain Gul Yahan.
According to the organisers, CMD Upendrra Rai shares a close bond with Neeraj and regards him as his mentor.
Bharat Express, however, continues to honour his legacy through the annual Neeraj Samman Samaroh and Kavyanjali.
Born on 4 January 1925 in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, Gopaldas ‘Neeraj’ passed away on 19 July 2018. Honoured with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and three consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Lyricist, his legacy continues to inspire generations.
