PIB Fact Check Warns Against Fake e-PAN Card Download Emails

The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has warned the public against fake emails claiming to offer e-PAN card downloads, urging citizens to remain vigilant against phishing attempts and online fraud.

In a post on social media, PIB Fact Check clarified that emails asking recipients to download an e-PAN card are fake and should not be trusted. It advised people not to respond to suspicious emails, links, phone calls or SMS messages that seek financial details, passwords, OTPs or any other sensitive personal information.

The advisory comes amid growing instances of cyber fraud in which scammers impersonate government departments and official agencies to steal personal and banking information.

Fraudsters often use convincing-looking emails and websites to trick people into revealing confidential details or downloading malicious files.

PIB Fact Check urged citizens to verify the authenticity of any communication before taking action and avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or suspicious sources.

PIB Fact Check urged people never to share financial or personal information through suspicious emails, links, calls or SMS. It advised citizens to report phishing emails through the Income Tax Department’s official portal and use only verified government websites and communication channels for tax-related services.

PIB Fact Check continues to issue regular alerts against online scams and misinformation, encouraging citizens to stay alert and verify information before responding to unsolicited communications.

By following basic cyber safety practices and using only official platforms, individuals can reduce the risk of falling victim to phishing attacks and financial fraud.
