Amit Shah Inaugurates Heritage Park, 101 Oxygen Parks In Ahmedabad

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated 101 Oxygen Parks across Ahmedabad and formally opened a new Heritage Park, strengthening the city’s green infrastructure.

The projects form part of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Green Lok Sabha Campaign and complement the Centre’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

Speaking at the event, Amit Shah encouraged people to commemorate meaningful occasions by planting trees in the name of their mothers. He also suggested dedicating trees to teachers and urged the public to transform the campaign into a nationwide people’s movement for environmental protection.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said the newly inaugurated Oxygen Parks are intended to improve air quality, increase urban greenery, and provide residents with more accessible open spaces.

Civic officials noted that the programme supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating environmentally sustainable cities.

According to the corporation, continuous plantation drives and awareness campaigns under the Hariyali Lok Sabha Abhiyan have increased tree density in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency by around 11.25 per cent.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation planned the Oxygen Parks scientifically and selected native tree species after evaluating the local climate, soil quality, groundwater availability and biodiversity.

Several locations feature Miyawaki forests and dense plantation models to accelerate forest growth, enhance carbon absorption and support local ecosystems.

Amit Shah also inaugurated the Heritage Park, developed jointly by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Torrent’s UNM Foundation.

Located along the Sabarmati River between Nehru Bridge and Vivekananda Bridge, the park presents Ahmedabad’s historical and cultural journey through five themed sections, highlighting its rich heritage and reinforcing its status as India’s first UNESCO-recognised World Heritage City.
