India head into their last Group 1 fixture knowing a positive result against Australia at Lord’s could secure a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side controls much of their own destiny, although anything short of victory could force them to depend on the outcome of the Bangladesh-South Africa contest.
After suffering an opening defeat to South Africa, India revived their campaign with convincing wins over Pakistan, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh. Those performances lifted them to six points and gave them a healthy net run rate of +2.268.
Australia has once again showcased its remarkable consistency by winning all four of its matches to comfortably lead Group 1.
The six-time champions also boast an impressive net run rate of +4.724, leaving them firmly on course for another semi-final appearance.
Rather than relying on one or two star performers, Australia has benefited from contributions throughout the squad.
Ellyse Perry has scored 127 runs to lead the batting charts for her side, while captain Sophie Molineux has taken six wickets to spearhead the bowling attack.
Key Players to Watch
India will once again look towards vice-captain Smriti Mandhana to provide a solid platform at the top of the order after she amassed 167 runs in four innings.
Left-arm spinner Shree Charani has emerged as the team’s standout bowler with a tournament-leading tally of 12 wickets.
Sunday’s encounter will also mark India’s first women’s T20 International at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, adding another memorable chapter to the team’s journey.
Although Australia has dominated the rivalry with 27 victories in 37 Women’s T20 Internationals and holds a 5-1 advantage in Women’s T20 World Cup meetings, India has shown it can challenge the world champions.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side defeated Australia in the semi-finals of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup before claiming a T20I series win on Australian soil earlier this year. Those victories have strengthened India’s belief as they prepare for one of their biggest matches of the tournament.
