Batwara 1947 Promises A Powerful Journey Through One Of History’s Darkest Chapters

The makers of Batwara 1947 have released the film’s first motion poster, offering audiences an evocative look at the upcoming period drama starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal and Shabana Azmi.

The visual introduction captures the emotional turmoil, fear and courage associated with one of the most defining chapters in the subcontinent’s history.

Shared by Sunny Deol on Instagram on Tuesday, the motion poster presents striking imagery of chaos, displacement and survival. It opens with a burning paper motif before revealing Sunny running through scenes of unrest and violence.

Images of people caught amid turmoil form the backdrop, highlighting the human cost of Partition.

As the poster progresses, Sunny is seen standing at the forefront holding a flaming torch, appearing to shield his family from the violence around them.

Preity Zinta is among the family members shown behind him, while the background depicts a conflict-ridden landscape marked by uncertainty and upheaval.

The actor also announced that Batwara 1947 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 14, 2026.

While details about the project remain under wraps, reports suggest that the film’s teaser will be released on June 15.

The film marks Sunny Deol’s reunion with director Rajkumar Santoshi following their successful collaborations on Ghayal and Damini.

The project was previously titled Lahore 1947. Reports suggest it draws inspiration from Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai.

The narrative focuses on a Hindu family displaced from Lahore during Partition. The family relocates to a haveli abandoned by a Muslim family. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover an elderly Muslim woman still living in the property.

The encounter sets the stage for a deeply human story shaped by loss, displacement and coexistence.
