Amit Shah To Launch Land Port Management System For Smart Border Operations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to roll out the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday, marking a major advancement in India’s efforts to modernise border infrastructure.

The newly developed digital platform will connect and manage activities across land ports through a unified technological framework.

Officials said the system will enable secure and instantaneous sharing of logistics and regulatory data, bringing land border facilities in line with the digital standards followed at airports and seaports.

The initiative highlights the Centre’s commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen border governance.

By digitising key processes, the government aims to improve transparency, increase efficiency, and reinforce security measures linked to the cross-border movement of goods and passengers.

LPMS serves as a common platform that enables government departments, transport operators, traders, and other stakeholders to coordinate more effectively and reduce procedural bottlenecks.

The platform will provide fully digital services for handling cargo and passenger movements.

Users will be able to access features such as online slot reservations, electronic payment systems, real-time tracking, and integrated clearance mechanisms through a single interface.

In addition, LPMS will connect with major national digital networks, including ICEGATE, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem, helping create a more transparent and interconnected border management environment.

During the programme, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly constructed accommodation facilities for stakeholders at the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura.

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, currently oversees 15 land ports situated along India’s international borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.

LPMS will strengthen trade connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and enhance national security while advancing India’s goal of becoming a technologically advanced and developed nation by 2047.
