Delhi-NCR Gets Rain Relief As IMD Predicts More Showers This Week

A change in weather conditions was witnessed across Delhi-NCR after rainfall affected several localities.

The precipitation helped lower temperatures and provided relief from the hot and muggy weather experienced in recent days.

Neighbourhoods near the Indira Gandhi International Airport received rain on Sunday.

Overcast skies and refreshing winds accompanied the showers, making outdoor conditions more pleasant.

The India Meteorological Department has indicated the possibility of additional light rainfall on June 11 and 12. Thunderstorm activity and strong winds with speeds of up to 60 kmph are also expected during the period.

Officials stated that the upcoming weather system may reduce daytime temperatures to around 35°C–37°C by June 12.

Earlier projections had suggested temperatures could climb to nearly 42°C by the middle of the week.

Weather experts are also tracking the progress of the southwest monsoon.

The seasonal rainfall system entered Kerala on June 4, signalling the start of the country’s monsoon season.

Meteorologists have observed favourable conditions for its continued movement across various parts of India.

If current trends continue, Delhi could witness the arrival of the monsoon during the final week of June.

The monsoon is steadily advancing through the southern and western regions of the country. Before reaching Delhi, it is expected to spread across Maharashtra, central India, and sections of the Gangetic belt.

Although weather conditions improved, air quality across the capital showed little improvement.

Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index remained in the ‘very poor’ category at 360.

Pollution monitoring stations across different areas reported varying AQI levels, ranging from moderate to poor.

Experts believe the speed and strength of the monsoon over the coming days will significantly influence both air quality and weather patterns in the national capital.
