The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing for a fresh round of military strikes against Iran despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, according to US media reports citing sources familiar with the planning.

According to reports cited by Xinhua, discussions on the final decision continued as of Friday afternoon local time.

Addressing a rally in New York’s Rockland County, Trump claimed Iran was seeking negotiations after suffering major military setbacks. He said Tehran’s naval and air capabilities had been severely weakened and reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

During the rally, Trump said stabilising the Middle East was essential for global energy markets and argued that US actions against Iran would help reduce oil prices. He also praised the strength of the US military and highlighted recent American military operations, including what he called ‘Operation Epic Fury’.

Trump described Iran as ‘the world’s number one state sponsor of terror’ and accused Tehran of funding instability across the globe.

The President further claimed that his administration had restored America’s global standing after what he described as a period of weakness during former President Joe Biden’s tenure.

While the Rockland County rally largely focused on immigration, crime, and tax cuts, Trump repeatedly returned to foreign policy themes, portraying military strength as central to his administration’s agenda. He also defended his tariff policies and economic strategy, claiming they had strengthened the US economy despite ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Trump pointed to gains in the Dow Jones index while addressing supporters.

His remarks on Iran drew strong applause from the crowd, with supporters repeatedly chanting ‘USA, USA’ during the event.
