Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the government has resolved not only to stop infiltration into the country but also to identify every illegal infiltrator ‘one by one’ and deport them.

Addressing the KF Rustomji Lecture organised in memory of the founder and first Border Guard of the BSF, Shah said the government would not allow any artificial alteration of demography and announced plans to convene a meeting with the Chief Ministers of Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal to strengthen the border security grid.
Calling demographic alteration a ‘conspiracy’, Shah said, “The BSF has to foil this conspiracy. And today, I can declare that in Tripura, Assam and West Bengal there are governments which support the principle that there should be no infiltration.”
The Home Minister said the Border Security Force should not only guard borders but also strengthen coordination with village patwaris, police stations, district collectors and district superintendents of police to identify infiltration and cattle smuggling routes.
“It is BSF’s responsibility to identify and stop these activities,” the Minister said.
Shah added that the Centre would soon hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of the three border states to intensify efforts against infiltration.
“The time has come that infiltration should also be put to an end,” he said, citing the government’s anti-Maoist campaign as an example.
Referring to Maoism, Shah said many officials had once advised against attempting to eliminate it, but security forces succeeded through determination and courage.
The Minister said the Union government had expanded the BSF’s jurisdiction from 15 km to 50 km from the border for conducting searches and arrests. He also noted that West Bengal had begun handing over land for border fencing.
The event also included the BSF Investiture Ceremony, where 43 personnel received awards.
Shah said the BSF, entrusted with guarding the Bangladesh and Pakistan borders, had evolved into one of the world’s most respected border security forces through patriotism and dedication in extreme conditions.
