Padma Shri Awardees Back PM Modi’s Austerity Appeal During Global Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal promoting austerity, restrained consumption and economic prudence has received strong endorsement from prominent Padma Shri awardees across the country. His seven public appeals, including conserving fuel, reducing unnecessary spending, avoiding gold purchases and using public transport, have sparked nationwide discussion.

Women Padma Shri awardees Malini Awasthi and Chhutni Mahato openly supported the Prime Minister’s message on Monday. Both described the appeals as necessary steps for strengthening India’s economic resilience during uncertain global conditions.

Renowned folk singer and Padma Shri recipient Malini Awasthi stated that the Prime Minister’s message carried serious national significance. She said the world currently faces instability due to ongoing international conflicts, making responsible consumption increasingly important.

“We all listened to the Prime Minister yesterday, and the entire nation is discussing the matter. No one can deny the gravity inherent in the Prime Minister’s message to the nation,” Malini Awasthi remarked.

Awasthi emphasised that citizens should conserve petrol and diesel, adopt public transportation and prioritise indigenous products. She noted that earlier generations frequently practised carpooling and shared transportation to minimise fuel consumption.

Malini Awasthi further explained that avoiding gold purchases for a year would reduce pressure on India’s foreign exchange reserves and strengthen the national economy.

“As responsible citizens, we must minimise our fuel consumption, utilise indigenous products and exercise restraint in spending,” she said.

Padma Shri awardee Chhutni Mahato, recognised for her campaign against witch-hunting in Jharkhand, also endorsed the Prime Minister’s initiatives. She stated that the seven appeals prioritise national welfare rather than political interests.

Mahato highlighted that reducing cooking oil consumption could improve household finances and public health simultaneously.

Chhutni Mahato further stressed that adopting indigenous goods would strengthen domestic industries and generate employment opportunities, supporting the vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
