Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on May 10 and 11 to attend commemorative events at the Somnath Temple and inaugurate the Sardardham Hostel complex in Vadodara, according to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
PM Modi will arrive in Jamnagar on May 10 before travelling to Somnath the following morning. At around 10.15 AM on May 11, he will participate in the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’, marking 75 years since the inauguration of the restored temple.
As part of the programme, the Prime Minister will take part in the Vishesh Maha Puja, followed by the Kumbhabhishek and Dhvajarohan ceremonies linked to the temple’s consecration rituals and ceremonial flag hoisting. He will also release a commemorative stamp and coin ‘commemorating the rich legacy and spiritual significance of Somnath’, the statement said.
The Prime Minister will likely address a gathering during the event.
The Somnath temple, located in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, is one of Hinduism’s most significant pilgrimage sites. The shrine was reconstructed after Independence with support from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and inaugurated in 1951 by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad.
Following the Somnath programme, PM Modi will travel to Vadodara to inaugurate the Sardardham Hostel complex at around 6 PM. The project includes hostel accommodation for 1,000 boys and 1,000 girls, along with a dining hall, library, auditorium and e-library facilities.
Authorities in Gir Somnath and Vadodara have intensified security, traffic and sanitation preparations ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, with officials also preparing for a possible roadshow in Vadodara.
