Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party following the party’s victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.

In a message posted on X on Wednesday, PM Persad-Bissessar described the BJP’s performance as a ‘historic electoral victory’ and said the result reflected the strength of India’s democratic system. She noted that the election marked the first time the BJP had won the West Bengal Assembly polls, calling it a major political development in one of India’s largest and most populous states.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, PM Modi’s leadership continues to enjoy public confidence during a period of global uncertainty and transformation. She also described India as the world’s largest democracy.

PM Persad-Bissessar further said her government was looking forward to the upcoming official visit of S Jaishankar later this week.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister stated that relations between India and Trinidad and Tobago continue to deepen through shared democratic values, close people-to-people ties and cooperation in development and international affairs.

Responding to the message, Jaishankar thanked the Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister for her remarks and said he was looking forward to visiting the country and working towards strengthening bilateral ties further.
