Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it fired two missiles at a US Navy frigate near the Strait of Hormuz.

Reports carried by Fars News Agency indicated that Iranian forces took action after the vessel allegedly failed to comply with naval warnings.

According to Iranian sources, the warship had approached waters near Jask and attempted to pass through the strait in breach of maritime security rules. They claimed the vessel withdrew from the area following the reported strike.

In contrast, US officials rejected the account. A senior American representative, quoted by Axios, stated that no US naval ship had been hit, directly contradicting Iran’s version.

Iran has consistently maintained that vessels must seek its approval before transiting the Strait of Hormuz and has warned that violations would invite a decisive response.

The waterway remains a vital corridor for global energy supplies, heightening the stakes of any confrontation.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that American forces would help guide stranded ships safely through the strait.

Responding to these remarks, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters cautioned that any foreign military force, particularly from the United States, would face retaliation if it attempted to enter the area.

Iran strengthened its control over the strait from late February, restricting the movement of vessels associated with the United States and Israel after reported joint strikes on Iranian territory.

The situation worsened after diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington in April ended without agreement, leading to stricter measures and increased military readiness. These developments highlight the continuing volatility in the Gulf, as both sides maintain sharply opposing narratives over recent events.
