Chennai Super Kings set a target of 159 runs for the Gujarat Titans in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League 2026. The side struggled early, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings with an unbeaten 74 to guide his team to a competitive score.
At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first. In reply, Sanju Samson and Gaikwad opened carefully, adding 21 runs in 3.3 overs. Samson, however, departed after scoring 11 runs off 15 balls, including two boundaries.
The innings soon lost momentum as CSK suffered quick setbacks. Urvil Patel fell on the final ball of the same over after scoring 4 runs off 3 deliveries in his first appearance of the season.
Mohammed Siraj dismissed Sarfaraz Khan for a duck at 4.4 overs, leaving CSK three wickets down. Dewald Brevis also failed to make an impact, departing for 2 runs in the ninth over. By then, CSK had slumped to 37/4.
From that point, Shivam Dube joined Gaikwad and stabilised the innings. The duo added 59 runs for the fifth wicket in 43 balls. Dube contributed 22 runs off 17 balls before getting dismissed.
Gaikwad then stitched together a 26-run partnership with Kartik Sharma for the sixth wicket. Kartik added a quick 15 off 9 balls. Leading from the front, Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 74 from 60 balls, hitting four sixes and six fours, as CSK posted 158/7.
For the Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada claimed three wickets, while Arshad Khan picked up two. Siraj and Manav Suthar took one wicket each.
CSK currently occupies the fifth spot on the points table with three wins from seven matches. GT, however, is placed seventh, having lost four of its seven encounters.
