Amid the ongoing Gujarat Local Body Polls, a notable display of democratic participation was seen on Sunday as Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), and his wife Diva Shah cast their votes at a polling booth in Ahmedabad. Both were seen standing in line like ordinary citizens before exercising their franchise.
After voting, they displayed their inked fingers, marking their participation in the democratic process and encouraging youth engagement.
The elections are being held on a wide scale across Gujarat, covering 15 municipal corporations, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot, along with over 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats. The results are scheduled to be announced on April 28.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah cast his vote with his family at a polling booth in Gandhinagar, accompanied by his wife Sonal Shah, son and ICC Chairman Jay Shah, and daughter-in-law Rishita Patel. Following voting, he visited a temple with his family.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel voted early in Ahmedabad, stating, “Today, Gujarat is voting in local body elections. It is a festival of democracy, and everyone should celebrate it. It is an important opportunity for all to fulfil their duty.”
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi cast his vote in Surat, expressing confidence in public support for development initiatives.
“Gujarat’s citizens are ready to write a new history together. Today I also voted to accelerate the pace of development. BJP and the people of Gujarat are working together as ‘Team Gujarat’,” he said.
