An emotional final farewell was held for legendary singer Asha Bhosle, as her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle performed the Asthi Visarjan ritual in Varanasi.
Zanai shared glimpses of the ceremony on social media, including a video showing family members gathered on a boat along the Ganges.
The visuals captured a solemn prayer ceremony conducted before the immersion of the ashes. A portrait of the late singer stood at the centre of the ritual.
The ceremony was attended by close family, including her son Anant Bhosle and other relatives, as they carried out what Zanai described as the singer’s final wish.
In a heartfelt message, she expressed the difficulty of the moment while urging admirers to pray for her grandmother’s peace.
Since the passing of Asha Bhosle, Zanai has frequently shared memories and tributes online, reflecting on their close bond. She was also seen visibly distressed during the funeral procession held earlier.
The veteran singer died on 12 April at the age of 92 following complications related to multi-organ failure. She had been admitted to a Mumbai hospital a day prior due to exhaustion and a chest infection.
Her funeral drew several prominent figures from the film and music industry. Attendees included Aamir Khan, Tabu, Riteish Deshmukh, Jackie Shroff and Vicky Kaushal, among others.
Musicians such as Anup Jalota, Sudesh Bhosle and Shaan paid tribute through music, honouring her immense contribution to Indian cinema.
Asha Bhosle’s career spanned more than eight decades, leaving a lasting imprint on the country’s musical heritage.
