Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold high-level discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in New Delhi on Monday, with both sides likely to focus on strengthening economic links and expanding strategic cooperation.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened global uncertainty, particularly due to ongoing tensions in West Asia, which have affected energy markets and supply chains.

President Lee will begin his visit by paying respects at Raj Ghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, before proceeding to formal talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks his first official visit to India since assuming office.

Officials from both countries have indicated that discussions will likely centre on collaboration in sectors such as shipbuilding, maritime industries, artificial intelligence, finance, and defence.

Strengthening coordination on energy security and supply chain resilience will likely feature prominently.

The two leaders have previously met during international forums, including the G7 and G20 summits last year, and this will be their third in-person interaction.

As part of his itinerary, President Lee will also engage with business leaders from India and South Korea, aimed at boosting investment and trade partnerships.

President Droupadi Murmu will host a state luncheon in his honour.

The South Korean leader arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a three-day visit, accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a delegation of senior officials and business representatives. Minister of State Harsh Malhotra received him at the airport.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the South Korean President’s visit to India as a significant step forward in strengthening the two countries’ Special Strategic Partnership.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met President Lee shortly after his arrival, expressing confidence that the visit would further strengthen bilateral engagement.
