President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday expressed profound sorrow over the devastating road accident in Bihar’s Katihar district, which resulted in the loss of 10 lives and left 25 others injured.
Sharing her message on the social media platform X, she described the incident as deeply distressing and extended her condolences to the bereaved families.
In her statement, the President prayed for strength for those who lost their loved ones and wished a swift recovery to all those injured in the mishap.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences, terming the accident extremely painful. He announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each deceased, along with ₹50,000 for those injured.

The accident occurred near Basgada Chowk on National Highway 31, where a speeding bus collided head-on with a pickup vehicle, leaving both badly damaged.
Locals and police rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, including Katihar Sadar Hospital, and prioritised their treatment.
Several victims remain critical, raising fears the death toll may rise, as the tragedy highlights the urgent need for stricter road safety measures.
