Trump Signals Talks With Iran On Strait Of Hormuz, Says Route May Reopen Soon

US President Donald Trump has said American officials are likely to hold discussions with Iranian representatives in Pakistan regarding the status of the Strait of Hormuz, expressing confidence that the vital shipping route will reopen in the near future.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the strait would reopen soon, with or without direct agreement from Tehran. He indicated that progress on the issue could be swift.

The US President also warned that the United States is prepared to act if negotiations fail to deliver results.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor, effectively shut during the recent conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran. The conflict lasted over a month and disrupted maritime movement in the region.

Trump emphasised that Washington’s primary objective in any agreement is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He described this as the central issue in ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The US President also criticised Iran’s position, arguing that it relies on short-term disruption through control of international waterways.

In remarks shared on his social media platform, Trump said Tehran’s current strategy amounts to temporary pressure rather than long-term strength.

At the same time, Iran has maintained a firm stance. Officials in Tehran said their armed forces remain fully prepared. They cited repeated instances of broken commitments by the United States and Israel as the reason for continued military readiness.

Earlier in the day, Trump indicated that clarity on the outcome of the talks could emerge within a short timeframe. He added that US naval forces are on standby and could resume military action if diplomatic efforts do not succeed.

Although all sides have declared success following the recent conflict, observers note that the ceasefire remains unstable.

Analysts warn that deep-rooted disagreements and competing strategic interests may complicate efforts to secure a lasting resolution in the upcoming negotiations.
