Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that efforts by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party, the Trinamool Congress, to protect illegal infiltrators would not succeed.
Addressing a campaign rally in Debra, West Midnapore, he said such infiltrators will leave one by one after the elections, regardless of political backing.
Shah alleged that infiltrators were taking away jobs from local unemployed youth and benefiting from state-provided free rations. He also warned that individuals involved in antisocial activities with alleged backing from the ruling party would face legal consequences after the election results are declared on May 4.
Amit Shah contrasted the approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with that of the state leadership, stating that while the central government focuses on national security, the West Bengal leadership prioritises political succession. He accused Banerjee of prioritising the continuation of her leadership through her nephew.
The Minister further criticised the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress, describing it as a period marked by fear, corruption, appeasement politics, and lack of development. He said a BJP government would work towards restoring growth and stability in the state over the next five years.
HM Shah also addressed claims that a BJP government would discontinue financial assistance schemes. He dismissed these as misleading and said that, as per the party’s manifesto, women and unemployed youth would receive increased financial support.
Reassuring the promise, he said that Rs 3,000 per month will start immediately after the formation, irrespective of political affiliation.
