Indian equity benchmarks extended gains for the fifth consecutive session, delivering the strongest rally of the year so far. The BSE Sensex surged 2,946.32 points, or 3.95 per cent, to close at 77,562.90. The Nifty 50 advanced 873.70 points, or 3.78 per cent, settling at 23,997.35.

The rally followed easing geopolitical tensions and stable signals from domestic policy. Investor confidence strengthened as global risks appeared to soften and monetary conditions remained predictable.

Market experts indicated that the 23,700–23,600 band serves as immediate support for the Nifty. A breach below this range may trigger profit booking.

On the upside, analysts noted that a firm breakout above 24,500 is essential to sustain the ongoing uptrend and unlock further gains.

Domestic policy support played a critical role. The Reserve Bank of India retained its benchmark repo rate at 5.25 per cent during the April monetary policy review.

It also maintained a neutral stance. The Marginal Standing Facility rate remained at 5 per cent, while the Standing Deposit Facility rate stayed at 5.5 per cent.

Among top gainers on the Nifty were Shriram Finance, Tata Motors (passenger vehicles segment), and Adani Enterprises, which witnessed strong buying interest.

Broader indices mirrored the bullish trend. The Nifty MidCap index rose 4.03 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index climbed 4.39 per cent.

Sectorally, Realty and Auto stocks led the advance, reflecting robust demand in the property and automobile segments. However, the IT sector lagged and posted comparatively modest gains.

Global developments further aided sentiment. Donald Trump announced a temporary pause in a proposed US strike on Iran’s infrastructure for two weeks. Analysts said this move reduced immediate geopolitical risk.

The convergence of supportive domestic policy and improving global outlook propelled Indian equities sharply higher, signalling renewed investor optimism.
