LPG Carrier Bound For India Enters Strait Of Hormuz As Fuel Supply Routes Hold Steady

An LPG carrier headed for India has entered the Strait of Hormuz, signalling some stability in fuel supply lines despite continuing tensions in West Asia.

The vessel, Green Sanvi, is transporting over 46,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas and will likely move beyond the narrow maritime corridor by early morning, according to sources.

The cargo is seen as significant for India’s household energy needs, particularly as global shipping routes remain under strain due to the ongoing regional conflict.

Officials indicated that the tanker is part of a small group of Indian carriers navigating the route together.

In total, three vessels are currently transiting the Strait, with this being among the latest movements since hostilities escalated in the region.

Iranian authorities granted clearance for the passage, with support from the naval wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The vessels were reportedly classified as belonging to a friendly country following diplomatic coordination between India and Iran.

Sources added that the ships are using a route closer to Oman’s coastline, a path increasingly preferred for safety reasons as it reduces exposure to more sensitive zones in the northern section of the Strait.

Additional Indian carriers are likely to follow shortly, with no disruptions reported so far. Once through the passage, the vessels will continue onward to Indian ports.

The transit comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz remains under close watch due to the wider conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which has affected global energy flows and raised concerns for import-dependent economies such as India.
