Sameer Rizvi struck an unbeaten 70. He shared a decisive 119-run stand with Tristan Stubbs. Delhi Capitals registered a convincing six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
The match took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
While pursuing 142, the Delhi Capitals encountered early setbacks against a disciplined pace attack from LSG that generated movement from the start.
KL Rahul fell for a duck after edging a delivery from Mohammed Shami, and Nitish Rana failed to settle before losing his wicket to Mohsin Khan.
Prince Yadav impressed by dismissing Pathum Nissanka through a miscued shot safely taken by Rishabh Pant near the boundary. He then produced a sharp delivery to bowl Axar Patel, further tightening LSG’s grip during the Power-play.
Despite a cautious beginning, Sameer Rizvi regained momentum with calculated stroke play and clever shot selection. He attacked the bowling, especially targeting Shahbaz Ahmed, and alongside Tristan Stubbs, constructed a match-defining 119-run partnership.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants failed to put together a strong total after the opposition sent them in to bat.
The opposition dismissed captain Rishabh Pant early through a run-out, while Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram failed to convert their starts into big scores.
Mukesh Kumar delivered a controlled spell with the new ball, and Axar Patel, along with Kuldeep Yadav, maintained pressure through the middle overs.
Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan spearheaded the bowling attack with three wickets apiece to restrict LSG to 141.
Sameer Rizvi completed a well-paced half-century and remained unbeaten on 70, while Tristan Stubbs stayed not out on 39 to guide the team home.
Delhi Capitals chased down the target in 17.1 overs, securing a dominant victory to begin their campaign.
Lucknow Super Giants: 141 all out in 18.4 overs (Mitchell Marsh 35, Abdul Samad 36; T. Natarajan 3-29, Lungi Ngidi 3-31, Kuldeep Yadav 2-31)
Delhi Capitals: 145/4 in 17.1 overs (Sameer Rizvi 70*, Tristan Stubbs 39*) — won by six wickets.
