Surat Fire Tragedy: 5 Of Family Dead In Limbayat Blaze, Probe Underway

A tragic fire incident in Surat resulted in the deaths of five members of a family on Tuesday morning.

The blaze broke out in a residential building located in the Limbayat area, causing severe damage and loss of life.

Authorities stated that the incident came to light at around 11 AM in the Mithi Khadi locality. Flames rapidly spread through a ground-plus-two-storey house, creating panic among nearby residents.

Preliminary inputs indicate that the fire likely originated on the ground floor during cooking activities.

A suspected gas leak may have triggered the incident, allowing the flames to spread swiftly across the structure.

Fire brigade personnel reached the location promptly after receiving the alert and began rescue operations.

Despite their efforts, all five individuals inside the house were found unconscious. They were transported to a government hospital in Surat, where medical officials confirmed their deaths.

Victims Identified

Officials identified the deceased as Shehnaz Begum Ansari (65), Husa Begum Ansari (18), Shabina Ramzan Ansari (28), Parveen Abdul Kalam Ansari (19), and four-year-old Subhan Ramzan Ansari.

According to police, the family carried out saree-related work from home and had stored large quantities of sarees, foam sheets, and related materials within the premises. These highly inflammable items, along with oils and chemicals used in the trade, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Dense smoke quickly filled the house, leaving little opportunity for escape.

Inspector Chirag Dhokadiya said, “The fire broke out around 11 AM today. Five members of the family, including four women, have died. The family was involved in freelance saree work, and a large quantity of sarees was present at the spot.”

The Inspector further noted that a forensic science laboratory team has been called to examine the scene and determine the cause.

“The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and we are awaiting the medical reports,” he said.

Officials added that an electrical short circuit could also have led to the fire, igniting the stored materials.

Toxic fumes generated within the confined space are believed to have caused suffocation.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze after sustained efforts, with support from nearby fire stations.

Authorities are also continuing a detailed probe to establish the exact cause of the incident.
