AAP Releases First List Of 460+ Candidates For Gujarat Local Body Polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday released its first list of over 460 candidates for the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat, signalling a strong push for wider participation in electoral politics.

State president Isudan Gadhvi called the announcement a step toward empowering ordinary citizens, sharing the details in a post on X.

In a video message, Isudan Gadhvi explained that the list includes candidates for taluka and district panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations across the state. He added that the party’s state leadership, screening committee, and central leadership worked together to finalise the selections.

Gadhvi said the party prioritised socially active individuals who do not belong to established political families. He emphasised that the move reflects AAP’s vision of promoting a ‘politics of common people’ and moving away from traditional dynastic practices.

The party aims to create opportunities for grassroots workers and citizens who have historically remained on the margins of political processes.

Gadhvi also criticised past trends where political opportunities largely favoured influential families and wealthy individuals, noting that the party now seeks to break that pattern.

By doing so, he said, AAP hopes to open doors for wider public participation and strengthen democracy at the local level.

Part of Broader Electoral Strategy

The release of the first candidate list marks the beginning of a broader electoral strategy for the Gujarat local body polls.

Gadhvi indicated that additional lists will follow in the coming days as the party prepares for the elections, further expanding opportunities for ordinary citizens to contest and engage in governance.

The initiative further reinforces AAP’s commitment to decentralising political power and encouraging active involvement from grassroots communities.

This approach highlights the party’s focus on inclusivity and challenges traditional political norms, aiming to reshape local politics in Gujarat by empowering new voices.
