Union Home Minister Amit Shah commemorated the birth anniversary of Rani Avantibai Lodhi, praising her indomitable courage and leadership during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He highlighted her role in mobilising resistance against British rule and her enduring legacy of sacrifice.
pic.twitter.com/Jhicda8c9k

Rani Avantibai Lodhi, the queen of Ramgarh in present-day Madhya Pradesh, emerged as a formidable leader during the uprising. She rallied nearly 4,000 soldiers and confronted British forces with determination.
Her strategic acumen led to a significant battlefield success near Devri, reinforcing her stature as a warrior queen.
As British troops advanced, she chose to end her life rather than face capture, upholding her honour and defiance.
Her martyrdom on March 20, 1858, marked a defining moment in the resistance against colonial authority. Despite her contributions, she remains a relatively under-recognised figure in India’s freedom struggle.
The accompanying visual depiction presents her in traditional warrior attire, holding a sword and shield. The imagery reflects themes of bravery, dignity, and self-respect, which continue to resonate in contemporary narratives of nationalism.
Shah’s tribute underscores the importance of remembering such historic figures who shaped the early resistance movement. It also reinforces the government’s emphasis on celebrating unsung heroes of India’s past.
Her story continues to inspire generations, symbolising resilience and unwavering commitment to freedom.
