A ceiling fan fell on a judge during court proceedings in Indore, sparking concerns over poor infrastructure and safety in court buildings.

Indore Court Incident: Ceiling Fan Falls On Judge, Raises Safety Concerns

A dramatic incident took place in an Additional District Judge (ADJ) court in Indore when a high-speed ceiling fan suddenly detached and fell on the presiding judge.

The incident occurred while court proceedings were in progress, with dozens of people inside the courtroom. The sudden collapse caused panic, and the injured judge was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Bar Association President LL Yadav, who was present at the time, stated that the fan fell directly onto the judge’s head. The impact produced a loud noise, startling everyone in the courtroom.

As news of the incident spread, people quickly gathered, and the judge was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Doctors at the hospital conducted a thorough examination of the injured judge. Following the medical assessment, the ADJ was advised to take leave.

The incident has since raised serious concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of courtroom infrastructure.

Lawyers practising at the court highlighted the absence of essential amenities within the premises. They pointed out that there are no separate toilet facilities for staff, and a single public toilet is shared by all, indicating inadequate infrastructure.

Advocates also drew attention to persistent structural issues in the building. They noted that the courtroom experiences leakages during the rainy season, while the electrical wiring is outdated and prone to problems.

Recurring Issues and Delayed Upgrades

Similar incidents have been reported in the past, including plaster falling from the ceiling. However, no effective corrective measures have been implemented.

Construction of a new court complex is underway in Pipliyahana. The project is expected to take another one to one-and-a-half years to complete.

The upcoming facility will be fully air-cooled and designed without ceiling fans. However, the current ageing structure continues to pose risks to occupants, underlining the urgent need for improved safety standards.
