During the rally at Brigade Parade Ground, marking the culmination of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, PM Modi strongly criticised the recent incident involving President Droupadi Murmu.
PM Modi said, “West Bengal’s tribal community has long been denied its right to development under the Trinamool Congress. Insulting the President during her visit crosses all limits.”
He stressed that, as a tribal leader, President Murmu’s treatment is a matter of national importance. “The President was deeply saddened by the disrespect at the International Santal Conclave in Darjeeling,” he added.
PM Modi pointed out two major lapses: the police denied organisers’ preferred venue at Phansidewa, moving the event to a smaller place at Gossaipur, and neither the Chief Minister nor any Cabinet members greeted the President, constituting a clear breach of protocol.
The President reportedly expressed displeasure over the incident, while the Chief Minister dismissed concerns, claiming the President was ‘playing into the hands of the BJP’.
Without naming the Chief Minister directly, PM Modi criticised her remarks, implying that the unity of a specific community could create trouble.
He called it an attack on social harmony and accused the state government of spreading fear through divisive politics.
“Threatening citizens is Trinamool Congress’s culture. They say non-supporters are not Bengalis. Their days of hooliganism are ending,” the Prime Minister declared.
PM Modi’s remarks highlighted the disrespect to a constitutional figure and the marginalisation of West Bengal’s tribal communities.
He positioned this as a call for change in governance and as a rallying point for voters ahead of the state elections, asserting the need for safety, dignity, and equitable development for all communities.
