The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a revised investment of Rs 3,630.77 crore for building a new greenfield road corridor that will connect the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway to Jewar International Airport.
The project will link the airport through the Delhi–Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Sohna spur route of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. Authorities plan to execute the project using the hybrid annuity model in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The planned corridor will extend for around 31.42 kilometres. It is designed to provide quicker and more direct road access from South Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram to the upcoming Jewar International Airport.
Officials expect the project to strengthen transport connectivity and improve logistics efficiency across the National Capital Region (NCR). The new corridor is also expected to support regional trade, travel and economic activity.
The corridor will connect with several important transport routes, including the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
These connections will help create an integrated transport network and allow smoother movement of both passenger and freight traffic.
Elevated Highway Section
About 11 kilometres of the proposed route will be constructed as an elevated highway. This elevated stretch forms an essential part of the greenfield link connecting the DND–Ballabhgarh Bypass with Jewar International Airport.
The structure will also provide a direct connection to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, improving travel efficiency to the airport corridor.
According to the Cabinet note, “Its construction is imperative to unlock the full potential of the Jewar Airport–Delhi–Mumbai Expressway corridor and to ensure sustainable urban development in Faridabad.”
The corridor will pass through areas planned for high-density development under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031. Authorities believe the project will support upcoming infrastructure expansion and future urban growth in the region.
The additional expenditure for the elevated corridor has been estimated at Rs 689.24 crore. The Haryana government has agreed to contribute Rs 450 crore towards this component.
Earlier last month, the government approved the expansion of two stretches of National Highway-56 in Gujarat into four-lane roads. The project involves a total investment of Rs 4,583.64 crore.
The project includes the construction of the 47.46-kilometre Dhamasiya–Bitada/Movi section and the 60.21-kilometre Nasarpore–Malotha stretch, covering a combined length of 107.67 kilometres.
