India will take on New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final on Sunday, with both teams chasing major milestones in the tournament’s biggest clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
While India is on the verge of securing a record third T20 World Cup title, New Zealand are aiming to lift their maiden trophy in the format.
The final also carries added intrigue as India have never defeated New Zealand in a T20 World Cup match.
India is also pursuing several historic firsts in the summit clash.
A victory would make them the first host nation to win the T20 World Cup, the first team to successfully defend the title, and the first side to win the tournament three times.
Weather Forecast for the Final
Weather conditions in Ahmedabad are expected to remain hot and dry throughout the day of the match.
As per AccuWeather, hazy sunshine is forecast with no chances of rainfall.
Daytime temperatures may range between 34°C and 41°C, while the evening temperature is expected to hover around 30°C.
With no rain predicted, spectators and players are likely to witness a full match without weather disruptions.
Pitch Conditions
The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium is expected to favour batters and could produce a high-scoring contest.
The surface, which is made from a combination of red and black soil, generally offers good pace and bounce, allowing batters to play their shots freely.
Dew could, however, play a significant role during the second innings.
Moisture on the outfield has influenced the outcome of several matches in the tournament, making the toss potentially crucial, as captains may prefer to bowl first under such conditions.
This will be the third ICC final in three different formats between the two teams in the last six years.
The previous meetings include the 2021 World Test Championship final and the 2025 Champions Trophy final.
New Zealand currently hold a 2–1 record over India in ICC tournament finals, having won the Champions Trophy in 2000 and the World Test Championship in 2021. India, however, defeated New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final.
India will be playing their fourth T20 World Cup final, the most appearances by any team in the tournament’s history.
Historically, chasing teams have had the advantage in T20 World Cup finals, winning six of the previous nine title matches.
Among the three victories by teams batting first, India were responsible for two, in 2007 and 2024, both achieved in dramatic last-over finishes.
