Beyond Boundaries: Jamia Hamdard Goes Digital-First, Welcomes Record Online Batch With Vision Of 'Viksit Bharat'

Jamia Hamdard’s Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) formally inducted its January 2026 batch of online students in a virtual ceremony, signalling a decisive push towards technology-enabled higher education.

Hosted from the Vice Chancellor’s Board Room, the event underscored the NAAC A+ accredited university’s growing emphasis on digital outreach and academic accessibility.

The induction brought together learners from across India, including working professionals and students from underserved and tribal regions.

University leaders highlighted flexibility, inclusivity and academic excellence as defining features of the institution’s expanding online framework.

Registrar Col Tahir Mustafa outlined an ambitious growth strategy for distance education.

Having assumed office in July 2025 during a period of restructuring, he described online learning as central to the future of higher education. He disclosed that the university currently caters to over 4,000 online and distance learners and set a target of increasing this number to 40,000 in the coming years.

Emphasising discipline and proactive engagement, he positioned the expansion as vital to strengthening the university’s academic portfolio.

Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) M Afshar Alam addressed students as valued members of the Jamia Hamdard community. Drawing inspiration from founder Hakeem Abdul Hamid Sahib, he stressed holistic development alongside academic achievement.

He also announced the introduction of additional AI-based courses, aligning institutional goals with the broader national aspiration of ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Earlier, Prof (Dr) MA Sikandar, Director of CDOE, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to widening access to higher education for women, tribal communities and other marginalised groups, thereby contributing to improvements in the Gross Enrolment Ratio.

Faculty Guidance and Evaluation Framework

Faculty members encouraged students to practise consistency and effective time management in the digital learning environment, while the Controller of Examinations assured them of a transparent and robust evaluation system.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Babita Singh, Assistant Director, CDOE, marking the formal commencement of the academic session for the new online cohort.
