South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics is widely expected to increase the price of its upcoming Galaxy S26 smartphone. If implemented, this would mark the first upward revision in three years, following a period of steady pricing since 2023.
Industry analysts attribute the potential hike to the continued rise in global memory chip prices, which has been accelerated by the expanding demand for artificial intelligence applications.
The growing need for more advanced processing capabilities in AI-enabled devices has significantly increased component costs.
Samsung will host its annual Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in San Francisco on 25 February (US time). The event, themed ‘The Next AI Phone Makes Your Life Easier’, is expected to serve as the platform for unveiling the Galaxy S26, the newest entrant in the company’s premium S series line-up.
Stable Pricing Since Galaxy S23
The company has maintained consistent pricing for its flagship Galaxy S models since introducing the Samsung Galaxy S23 in 2023. However, market observers now believe that sustaining those price levels may no longer be feasible due to rising manufacturing expenses.
Earlier this year, Roh Tae-moon, co-chief executive officer of Samsung Electronics, spoke to reporters about rising costs. He said that surging memory chip prices could affect the pricing of upcoming devices.
Industry sources indicated that the 256GB variant of the Galaxy S26 may cost up to 99,000 won (around 68 US dollars) more. The base Galaxy S23 model was launched at a starting price of 1.15 million won.
In an earlier statement, Samsung outlined its vision for the new Galaxy S series. The company said it would aim to simplify everyday digital experiences while seamlessly integrating Galaxy AI features into daily use.
Reports further suggest that the upcoming handset, believed to be the Galaxy S26, will incorporate a built-in privacy feature. This technology is designed to prevent others from viewing on-screen content without the need for an additional privacy screen protector.
The launch is expected to highlight Samsung’s commitment to AI-led innovation, even as global supply chain dynamics influence pricing decisions in the competitive smartphone sector.
