PIB clarified that the letter did not originate from the official LPG distributor selection authority.
Authorities confirmed that LPG Vitarak Chayan had not issued any such allotment notice.
The agency urged citizens to disregard the fraudulent document and refrain from transferring money or sharing personal details.
The misleading letter circulated widely on digital platforms. It appeared authentic in format and language.
Fraudsters used official logos and bureaucratic phrasing to create credibility. However, PIB categorically stated that the document lacked legitimacy.
Pattern Of Repeated Fraud
Officials advised aspiring distributors to verify opportunities solely through the authorised portal, lpgvitarakchayan.in.
They stressed that genuine dealership processes follow transparent procedures and never demand arbitrary upfront payments through informal channels.
The incident forms part of a broader pattern of deception. Since 2020, cybercriminals have repeatedly targeted individuals seeking distributorships of public sector oil companies.
Fraudsters have circulated counterfeit approval letters purportedly issued by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
These scams typically demand registration or processing fees under the guise of refundable security deposits.
Government agencies have issued multiple advisories over the years, cautioning the public against such schemes.
PIB has consistently flagged forged letters and fabricated appointment notices linked to petroleum retail outlets and LPG distributorships.
Authorities have reiterated that official communications do not request payments through personal accounts or unverified links.
They have encouraged citizens to exercise vigilance and cross-check information through verified government websites before responding to any such offers.
The latest clarification underscores the continuing threat posed by digital impersonation fraud.
PIB has once again urged the public to remain alert, avoid financial transactions based on suspicious documents, and rely exclusively on official platforms for authentic dealership announcements.
