Amid the continuing controversy in Parliament over former Army chief General MM Naravane’s book, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday intensified his attack on the Congress and the Gandhi family by releasing a list of 40 books that he claimed expose the ‘real history’ of India and alleged controversies linked to Congress’s past governance.
The political flashpoint follows sharp exchanges in Parliament earlier this week after Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of the 2020 India-China standoff.
Gandhi referred to a magazine article that cited an ‘unpublished book’ by the former Army chief and claimed it contained references to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
These remarks prompted strong protests from treasury bench members, who demanded adherence to parliamentary rules and insisted that only ‘authentic sources’ be cited inside the House.
Dubey Takes Campaign to Social Media
In response, Dubey took to the social media platform X and posted 40 separate tweets, each believed to include the title, author and a brief summary of one book. He said the books deal with India’s historical narratives, the Emergency period between 1975 and 1977, dynastic politics and what he described as controversial aspects of Congress governance.
Dubey accused the Opposition, particularly the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, of holding Parliament ‘hostage’ for several days over references to what he called an unpublished work. He argued that discussions should instead focus on books already published and available in the public domain.
The controversy intensified on Wednesday when Dubey brought several books into the Lok Sabha and read excerpts during proceedings, drawing immediate objections from Opposition members and triggering disruptions.
Later, Dubey claimed the 40 books were only a fraction of available material, alleging that at least 150 published books reveal ‘deceit, corruption, and immoral relationships’ associated with the Nehru-Gandhi family.
He urged the Speaker to allow a detailed discussion, saying it would help the younger generation understand the ‘story before 2014’.
Among the books cited were The Accidental Prime Minister, These Lethal, Inexercisable Laws, and Article 370 – Undoing the Unjust, each of which he said highlighted alleged failures or controversies during Congress-led governments.
