The much-awaited feature film Godan, centred on cow culture and cow protection, is set for nationwide release on February 6.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad International President Alok Kumar described the film as a meaningful and inspiring cinematic effort with strong social relevance.
The recently unveiled trailer and poster have received encouraging responses from audiences across platforms.
Addressing the media, Kumar said the film raises critical issues connected to Indian values and cultural consciousness.
He noted that Godan presents its subject with depth and clarity, making it relevant for contemporary society while remaining rooted in tradition.
He recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that cow protection was more significant than even Swaraj.
Gandhi practised what he preached by personally serving cows and later giving up cow’s milk, believing it was meant only for calves.
Kumar said this philosophy underlines India’s long-standing reverence for the cow.
Referring to the events of November 7, 1966, Kumar recalled that saints, householders, and cow supporters gathered peacefully outside Parliament.
They assembled from across the country to demand cow protection.
He said authorities carried out a lathi charge without provocation, followed by firing and chaos.
Kumar stated that he personally witnessed injured saints and scattered belongings on the streets.
Despite this sacrifice, comprehensive cow protection remains unrealised.
Kumar pointed out that cow protection falls under the State List in the Constitution, limiting the Centre’s ability to enact strong nationwide legislation.
He said several states still permit cow slaughter, calling it unfortunate and inconsistent with India’s cultural heritage.
He stressed that cow rearing is not merely animal husbandry but an act of nurturing a mother figure.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Kumar said Indian civilisation accords the cow the status of a mother, not an animal.
Kumar highlighted that protecting indigenous cows enables panchgavya-based products, natural farming, chemical-free agriculture, and the production of medicinal and utility items from cow dung and urine.
These practices benefit both the environment and human well-being.
He said Godan effectively conveys these themes to the public. The film promotes cow culture, conservation, and Indian traditions with conviction and clarity.
Kumar congratulated the film’s entire team and expressed confidence that Godan will receive widespread appreciation in India and abroad.
VHP media representatives Shantanu Shukla, Vijay Shankar Tiwari, Dr Kapil Tyagi, and Rajkumar Dungar were present.
