PM Modi Extends Greetings To Indian Coast Guard On 50th Raising Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday conveyed his greetings to Indian Coast Guard personnel on the occasion of the force’s 50th Raising Day, lauding its contribution to safeguarding India’s maritime interests and supporting communities dependent on the sea.

Established on February 1, 1977, the Indian Coast Guard serves as India’s maritime law enforcement and search-and-rescue agency, with jurisdiction over territorial waters, the contiguous zone, and the exclusive economic zone.

In his message, PM Modi said it was a moment of immense pride to celebrate five decades of the Bharatiya Tatrakshak.

He praised the force for standing as a vigilant protector of the nation’s maritime interests with dedication and valour.

Highlighting its wide-ranging responsibilities, the Prime Minister said the Coast Guard has played a key role in ensuring maritime security, leading disaster response operations, combating smuggling, and preserving fragile marine ecosystems. He described the force as a ‘cornerstone of safety in Indian waters’.

PM Modi said the Indian Coast Guard not only secures maritime borders but also supports the livelihoods of coastal communities, while contributing to environmental protection through cleanliness initiatives.

He noted that the force will play an increasingly vital role as India moves towards a Viksit Bharat, especially amid the growing importance of the Blue Economy and rising maritime trade.

The Prime Minister concluded by extending his best wishes, expressing confidence in the Coast Guard’s continued service towards a secure and prosperous future.
