Union Budget 2026–27: Part B Set For Historic Role In Laying Out India’s Long-Term Growth Vision

The government is set to present the Union Budget 2026–27 with a significant structural shift, as Part B of the Budget document is likely to carry unprecedented detail and emphasis on India’s economic direction and policy reforms.

For the first time, this section is expected to offer clear directional cues on growth priorities and the country’s evolving role in a rapidly changing global economy.

Traditionally, the Union Budget is divided into two parts—Part A and Part B—with Part A housing most policy announcements, while Part B remains a shorter segment focused largely on tax proposals and limited updates.

This year, however, officials say the structure of the Finance Minister’s speech is being overhauled to give Part B a much larger and more strategic role.

Part B to Go Beyond Taxation

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to devote unprecedented attention to Part B, positioning it not merely as a tax policy outline but as a broader statement of India’s economic intent.

According to officials, the section will articulate both short-term priorities aimed at ensuring immediate economic stability and long-term objectives that will define the country’s growth trajectory over the coming years.

The segment is also likely to present a roadmap to strengthen India’s local capabilities on the global stage, highlighting sectors where the country holds competitive advantages, while also projecting emerging and surprise sectors that could drive future growth.

Growth, Fiscal Discipline And Global Uncertainty

The Budget’s emphasis this year is expected to be on defence, infrastructure, capital expenditure, power, and accelerated growth in affordable housing, while continuing to balance social welfare commitments with fiscal prudence. Policymakers are also expected to carefully align growth ambitions with fiscal discipline amid heightened global uncertainty.

Economists note that the Budget will need to strike a fine balance between sustaining growth momentum and maintaining fiscal consolidation, while also addressing near-term challenges arising from unprecedented geopolitical flux.

Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the 15th Budget of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and the second full Budget since the National Democratic Alliance returned to power for a third consecutive term in 2024.

She will also become the first woman finance minister to present the Union Budget in Parliament for the ninth consecutive time.

While the FY26 Budget leaned more towards stimulating middle-class consumption through tax reliefs, the approach in the FY27 Budget is expected to be more selective when it comes to boosting consumption.
