The Ambani family marked the beginning of the New Year with a visit to the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, while Reliance Industries simultaneously issued a clarification dismissing reports of a massive financial claim linked to gas production.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, accompanied by his wife Nita Ambani and son Anant Ambani, visited the Somnath Temple to offer prayers.
Images shared on social media showed the family performing rituals and seeking blessings at the revered shrine, regarded as the first among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Nita Ambani performed jal abhishek, while Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani, dressed in traditional attire, offered prayers. The Ambani family regularly visits prominent religious sites on significant occasions.
Reliance Rejects Viral Financial Claim
Alongside the public attention on the temple visit, Reliance Industries issued a media statement rejecting reports that the Indian government had raised a $30 billion claim against the company and its partner BP.
The reports were linked to alleged shortfalls in gas production from the KG-D6 block.
Reliance categorically denied the figure, calling the reports misleading. The company clarified that no such $30 billion demand exists. Instead, the government’s claim stands at $247 million, a figure that Reliance said it has already disclosed in its annual financial statements.
The company stated that the court is currently considering the matter and will resolve it strictly in accordance with the law.
Reliance expressed confidence in India’s legal system and reiterated that it, along with BP, has consistently complied with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
Reliance also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, stating that reports based on anonymous or unclear sources risk creating unnecessary confusion and misinformation.
Industry observers note that the clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of large corporate entities and underscores the importance of accurate reporting on financial and legal matters.
Reliance maintained that it remains committed to transparency and regulatory compliance while allowing the legal process to take its course.
