Delhi Police Intensify New Year Security; Arrest 285 In Operation Aaghat 3.0

With New Year celebrations approaching, Delhi Police stepped up security measures by conducting an overnight enforcement drive under Operation Aaghat 3.0 across the south-east district of the capital.

The coordinated crackdown resulted in the arrest of 285 accused and significant seizures aimed at preventing criminal activity during the festive period.

Police officials said the operation involved synchronised raids at multiple vulnerable locations identified through intelligence inputs.

The drive targeted offences related to illegal arms, narcotics, excise violations, gambling, and property-related crimes, to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.

Police arrested 285 accused under various provisions of the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act.

In addition, the police took preventive action against 504 individuals and rounded up 1,306 people as a precaution to deter potential unlawful activities during the holiday season.

The crackdown led to the apprehension of 116 habitual offenders, commonly referred to as ‘bad characters’.

Police also arrested 10 property offenders and five auto-lifters, focusing on dismantling vehicle theft networks to minimise inconvenience to residents and visitors.

Arms, Liquor, Drugs Seized During Drive

Significant recoveries were made during the drive.

Police seized 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. They also recovered 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and 6.01 kg of ganja.

Additionally, police seized cash amounting to Rs 2.30 lakh in cases linked to gambling.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of stolen items, including 310 mobile phones reported as snatched, robbed, or lost. Additionally, police seized or recovered 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler during the raids.

Operation Aaghat 3.0 follows earlier phases conducted in September and October, which led to multiple arrests and seizures of firearms and narcotics.

Delhi Police said such intelligence-driven operations will continue in the coming days to ensure heightened security and a safe environment across the city during the New Year and holiday season.
