On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah indicated that the Centre would soon appoint a senior interlocutor to address issues concerning the Rabha, Mising and Tiwa tribal communities of Assam.
This assurance emerged during a meeting with delegations from the three communities, held in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Taking to X, Shah posted, “Met with the delegations of the Rabha, Mising, and Tiwa communities of Assam in the presence of CM Shri @himantabiswa Ji. Listened to their demands and assured them that their genuine concerns will be addressed. The Ministry of Home Affairs will soon appoint a senior official to work towards an amicable and lasting solution.”

As per Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs will designate a senior official to work towards an amicable and lasting solution to the long-pending issues.
For decades, the Rabha, Mising and Tiwa communities have been demanding constitutional status for their respective autonomous councils, a core issue in their engagement with the Centre.
Attending the meeting alongside state Cabinet Minister Ranoj Pegu, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the Home Minister’s assurance.
“I offer my sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji for meeting the delegations of the Rabha, Mising and Tiwa communities, who have long been seeking constitutional status for their respective Autonomous Councils,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted.
The post further read, “The assurance given by the Home Minister to appoint an interlocutor and initiate an institutional dialogue is deeply reassuring and heart-warming. It reflects the Government of India’s commitment to inclusive governance, dialogue, and the protection of the constitutional aspirations of Assam’s indigenous communities.”

Cultural Landmark to Be Inaugurated During Shah’s Visit
CM Sarma also announced that HM Amit Shah will inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the largest auditorium in the Northeast, during his Assam visit on December 29.
The builders completed the 5,000-seat auditorium in record time, and it will emerge as a major cultural landmark in the region.
Named after cultural icons Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, the venue honours Assam’s rich artistic and intellectual legacy.
The designers built the auditorium to host large-scale cultural programmes, performances, conferences, and public events, aiming to strengthen the state’s cultural infrastructure.
According to officials, the state-of-the-art facility will offer a dedicated platform for artists and cultural organisations while enhancing Assam’s profile as a cultural hub.
The inauguration will form a key part of HM Amit Shah’s upcoming Assam visit, which will likely include several official engagements.
Coming soon after multiple central initiatives, the visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on Assam’s development and its integration with national growth priorities.
