Following the 2020 success of the original, Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders arrives on Netflix as a standalone sequel. Viewers will notice subtle references to the first film, but newcomers can enjoy it without confusion.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the movie runs for 2 hours and 15 minutes and features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Chitrangda Singh, Radhika Apte, Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Akhilendra Mishra, Deepti Naval, Revathi, and Priyanka Setia.
Releasing on 19th December 2025, it earned a four-star rating for its gripping storytelling.
Set in the Bansal household, a series of murders sparks a high-stakes investigation. Siddiqui returns as investigator Jatil Yadav, quickly realising that catching the culprit is only the beginning.
Storytelling goes beyond a standard ‘whodunnit’, examining institutional corruption, elite power struggles, and the dark secrets of a wealthy family.
Siddiqui anchors the film with a performance that conveys simmering frustration and moral determination. Singh impresses with subtle, emotionally charged acting that grounds the narrative.
Ensemble members Rajat Kapoor, Deepti Naval, and Revathi lend authenticity, while Apte’s brief presence remains impactful.
Trehan’s direction employs a slow-burn style, focusing on mood and suspense rather than action-packed sequences.
Cinematography creates a foreboding, immersive tone, and the haunting score heightens tension throughout. Editing occasionally drags, but deliberate pacing allows audiences to absorb the psychological depth of the story.
Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders stands out as a sophisticated crime drama that respects viewers’ intelligence.
Strong performances, layered storytelling, and meticulous world-building make it one of Netflix’s most compelling Indian mysteries of 2025.
