Preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 gather pace as the Board of Control for Cricket in India schedules a crucial selection committee meeting in Mumbai on Saturday.
“The Senior Men’s Selection Committee will meet at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai, on Saturday, to pick India’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. It will be followed by a press conference to be addressed by captain Suryakumar Yadav and selection committee chairperson Ajit Agarkar,” BCCI said on Friday.
Chaired by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar, the senior men’s selection panel will determine the squad for the global showpiece, which begins on February 7 across venues in India and Sri Lanka.
Following the deliberations, a media briefing will take place featuring India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav alongside selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar.
Additionally, the selectors will reveal India’s line-up for the home white-ball series against New Zealand, consisting of three ODIs and five T20Is.
Meanwhile, the Indian side remains focused on the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa at home, with the final fixture scheduled for Friday in Ahmedabad.
T20 World Cup 2026: Key Developments Ahead
Scheduled from January 11 to 31, the New Zealand series will act as a vital dress rehearsal, allowing the team management to test combinations ahead of the World Cup.
Featuring 20 teams, the 10th edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will unfold over 29 days at eight venues, marking another major cricketing spectacle in the subcontinent.
Drawn into Group A, India will compete against the USA, Namibia, the Netherlands and traditional rivals Pakistan in the opening phase.
Sharing hosting duties with Sri Lanka, India will stage its group matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Opening their campaign in Mumbai, India, will face the USA as they begin their quest to defend the T20 World Cup crown.
India aims to make history by becoming the first team to retain the Men’s T20 World Cup title, having won the tournament twice before, including the inaugural edition in 2007.
