Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday concluded his landmark two-day visit to Jordan and departed for Ethiopia for a State visit.
In a warm and symbolic gesture, Jordan’s Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II personally bid farewell to the Prime Minister at the airport following the conclusion of his engagements in Amman.
Earlier in the day, Crown Prince Al Hussein drove PM Modi to the Jordan Museum in Amman, reflecting the close and cordial nature of bilateral ties.
Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Vice-Chair of the Jordan Museum, gave the leaders a special tour, offering insights into Jordan’s rich historical and cultural legacy. The Crown Prince is the 42nd-generation direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the visit as a reflection of the shared civilisational links and centuries-old connections between India and Jordan, underscoring India’s philosophy of development alongside heritage.

Strengthening Economic Engagement
During the visit, PM Modi addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum, attended by King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein. He outlined key areas for expanding trade, business and investment cooperation and proposed increasing bilateral trade to USD 5 billion.
The Prime Minister also called for collaboration between Jordan’s digital payment system and India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), highlighting the potential of digital public infrastructure to drive inclusive growth.
Key Agreements Signed
India and Jordan finalised several Memoranda of Understanding during the visit, covering culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure and a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora.
These agreements are expected to significantly boost bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties.
Departure for Ethiopia
After concluding his Jordan visit, PM Modi departed for Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. This marks his first-ever visit to Ethiopia and highlights the growing strategic importance of India–Ethiopia relations.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold comprehensive discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on political engagement, development cooperation, trade, investment and people-to-people relations.
As partners in the Global South, both leaders are expected to reaffirm their commitment to expanding cooperation for mutual benefit.

Authorities in Addis Ababa have adorned the city with welcome hoardings, Indian flags and posters ahead of the visit, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since 2011.
PM Modi has highlighted Addis Ababa’s significance as the headquarters of the African Union and noted India’s role in securing the African Union’s permanent membership of the G20 during India’s 2023 presidency. He expressed his eagerness to engage with the Ethiopian leadership, the Indian diaspora and address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament.
