Year Ender 2025: Year 2025 is merely two weeks away from ending, but the memories, good or bad, it instilled in all of us are likely to linger. The year had been quite turbulent for many.
Apart from individuals, the year 2025 was no less than a nightmare for a few countries, which saw some unprecedented events. Some saw a mass movement that led to an ousting, while some saw a change of power.
Nepal
The Himalayan country known for the world’s highest peak of ‘Mount Everest,’ had to bend down after a huge protest led by Gen-Z that resulted in firing from the security forces, killing at least 19.
The incumbent Prime Minister KP Oli, ousted by the Gen-Z movement, was the same as what happened in Bangladesh on 5 Aug 2025. With Oli’s departure from power, Nepal had another government that could not complete its tenure in the last 17 years.
Portugal
Prime Minister Louis Montenegro led right-wing alliance lost the floor test in March, resulting in the resignation of Prime Minister Montenegro. After no mutual agreement between any party or alliance, the President dissolved the parliament, following the next election held on 18 May 2025.
Benin
Incumbent from 2016, President Patrice Talon was preparing for the next presidential election when television flashed a news. Year 2025 brought a Military Coup’d’etreat in Benin.
Military Committee for Refoundation (CMR) group declared a coup on 7 December on government television after a meeting, marking nearly a decade-old rule of President Patrice Talon.
Germany
In Germany, the Olaf Scholz government, formed in 2021 with the support of the Social Democratic Party, Green Party and Free Democratic Party. By the end of 2024, the internal discord surfaced that punctured the alliance resulting in failed no-confidence motion that ousted the German Chancellor.
Japan
In July, Japan lower house held election which the incumbent party LDP lost. Taking the responsibility of the defeat Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned, following Sanae Takaichi elected as the next PM from LDP with the majority.
