In a landmark moment for global wildlife conservation, the Global Humane Society, the international arm of the American Humane Society, presented Anant Ambani, founder of Vantara, with the Global Humanitarian Award for Animal Welfare.
Anant Ambani becomes the youngest honouree and the first Asian to receive this distinction, which is considered among the world’s most respected recognitions in animal welfare.
The award was conferred at an international gathering of conservation leaders and experts committed to advancing the protection of wildlife across continents.
The Global Humane Society noted that Ambani’s selection stemmed from his ‘visionary leadership’ in establishing Vantara, a conservation centre that has transformed large-scale wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and species preservation.
The award acknowledges individuals whose contributions create lasting, global impact for both animals and communities.
Dr Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of Global Humane Society, praised Vantara’s ethos, stating, “Vantara receiving the Global Humane Certified distinction reflected not only excellence in care, but a profound dedication to giving every animal dignity, healing and hope. And there is no greater champion of that vision than Mr Anant Ambani, whose leadership has set a new global standard for compassion in action.”
“Vantara represents one of the most extraordinary commitments to animal welfare anywhere in the world. it is more than a rescue center, it is a sanctuary of healing. The ambition, scale, and heart behind Vantara have set a new benchmark for what modern animal welfare can look like,” Dr Ganzert further added.
Anant Ambani Responds with Message of Shared Responsibility
Anant Ambani responded with a message rooted in traditional values, saying, “I thank Global Humane Society for this honor. For me, it reaffirms a timeless principle, sarva bhuta hita, the wellbeing of all beings. Conservation is not for tomorrow; it is a shared dharma we must uphold today.”
Vantara’s Global Humane Certified status followed a rigorous audit by experts in veterinary science, zoology, ethics and animal behaviour.
The certification evaluated everything from nutrition and medical care to environmental quality, safety, enrichment and species-specific needs.
What sets Vantara apart, officials noted, is its integration of ex situ and in situ conservation—simultaneously supporting rescued animals in care while strengthening protection and population recovery efforts in natural habitats.
Through research, restoration and reintroduction programs, Vantara aims to secure the future of threatened and even extinct-in-the-wild species.
The ceremony drew leading figures in global conservation, including Dr Jon Paul Rodríguez, Matt James, Thomas Schmid, Dr Michael Adkesson, and Kathleen Dudzinski.
Prominent Indian experts such as Dr Neelam Khaire, Dr VB Prakash and Dr KK Sarma were also present.
