Presented A Copy Of The Gita In Russian, Says PM Modi As He Gifts It To President Putin

PM Narendra Modi gifted President Putin a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita on Thursday, calling it a guiding light for people worldwide.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a Russian-language edition of the Bhagavad Gita to President Vladimir Putin. He described the ancient text as a guiding light for people worldwide.

The Prime Minister posted a photograph on his social media platform showing him handing the book to the visiting leader. Putin had arrived in New Delhi earlier in the evening for a two-day State Visit.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world.”

The picture shared online shows both leaders holding the book during the exchange, marking a symbolic cultural gesture.

PM Modi underscored the global relevance of the Gita, noting that its translated versions, including this Russian edition, have reached diverse audiences interested in its philosophical teachings.

The Prime Minister welcomed President Putin at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg for a private dinner. The residence illuminated and decorated with India–Russia flags to mark the occasion.

Earlier in the evening, PM Modi received President Putin at the airport. He then accompanied him in the same vehicle. The gesture highlighted their strong personal rapport and the enduring ties between the two nations.

The Prime Minister said he was looking forward to further discussions with President Putin later in the night and on Friday, as part of the packed visit agenda.

“Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin to India. Looking forward to our interactions later this evening and tomorrow. India-Russia friendship is a time tested one that has greatly benefitted our people,” PM Modi posted, alongside images from the airport welcome.

The leaders shared a warm greeting upon Putin’s arrival, followed by a short cultural display arranged as part of the reception.
