PM Modi added, “This divine text, adorned with invaluable messages of duty, holds a highly special place in Indian family, social, and spiritual life. Its divine verses will continue to inspire every generation to selfless action. Jai Shri Krishna.”
Gita Jayanti falls every year on Ekadashi, the eleventh day of the waxing moon in the Hindu month of Margashirsha.
The day marks when Lord Krishna imparted the spiritual wisdom of the Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Devotees also celebrate the day as Mokshada Ekadashi because it symbolises liberation through knowledge.
This year, the Ekadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha started at 9:29 PM on November 30 and ended at 7:01 PM on December 1. Devotees also observe a fast on this day.
Traditionally, followers celebrate by reciting scriptures, meditating, and offering prayers to Lord Krishna.
They wake early, take a purifying bath, wear clean clothes, and perform puja. Many recite selected chapters or the full 700-verse Gita.
After the recitation, devotees chant Krishna and Vishnu mantras, perform aarti, and distribute prasad. Evening worship is also considered auspicious.
The Gita is an ocean of spiritual knowledge. On Gita Jayanti, people strive to embrace its wisdom.
While reciting the Gita is encouraged every day, Margashirsha Ekadashi is special. On this day, Lord Krishna preached Dharma, Karma, and Moksha to Arjuna.
Reciting the Gita not only enhances spiritual knowledge but also opens eyes to wisdom and moral clarity, making it a guiding light for generations.
