Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the 60th All India DGP-IGP Conference in Raipur to call for a decisive shift toward AI-powered, data-centric policing.
Addressing over 300 top police officials, he urged the force to adopt modern tools, strengthen public trust, and reimagine its role in a rapidly digitising nation.
PM Modi emphasised that policing must transition from traditional models to technology-led systems. He highlighted the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence, NATGRID, advanced forensics, and data-driven threat assessments.
Prime Minister Modi stressed that police must build credibility among citizens, especially the youth, by adopting transparent, efficient, and intelligence-backed practices.
He issued a special call to intensify action against crimes targeting women and children.
PM Modi urged the nationwide expansion of emergency-response systems like Dial 112. He also advocated stronger coordination among agencies tackling cybercrime, fraud networks, and drug trafficking.
Citing progress in Chhattisgarh, he noted that Left-Wing Extremism-affected districts had significantly declined under his government.
The conference, themed “Surakshit Bharat,” aligned with the Prime Minister’s Vision 2047 roadmap for a secure and self-reliant India. He asked forces to stay ahead of emerging threats, including terrorism, urban crime, and digital vulnerabilities.
Hosted at IIM Naya Raipur, the three-day event brought together senior police leaders, NSA Ajit Doval, Home Minister Amit Shah, and key central agencies.
Security across Naya Raipur was heightened, given the state’s long battle with LWE.
Deliberations covered modern crime-fighting models, intelligence-sharing, upgradation of forensic labs, urban policing frameworks for mega-cities, scientific investigation methods, and training on new criminal laws such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Officers also discussed counter-radicalisation strategies and cross-border threat responses.
States showcased innovative policing initiatives, with Chhattisgarh presenting its tech-enabled anti-LWE strategies.
Prime Minister Modi urged the adoption of next-generation solutions, potentially integrating AI into more than 20,000 police stations by 2030.
Officials expect follow-up action, including dedicated AI-integration task forces and stronger women’s safety mechanisms.
The conference concluded with Prime Minister Modi reaffirming the police force’s critical role in safeguarding a “secure and progressive India.”
His message signalled a transformative moment: India’s policing must evolve into a technologically empowered, citizen-focused, and future-ready institution.
