Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of India after authorities officially declared Ahmedabad the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The announcement came during the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in Glasgow on Wednesday.
PM Modi called it a historic milestone that places India firmly on the global sporting map.
“Guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we look forward to celebrating these games with enthusiasm and welcoming the world,” PM Modi wrote on X.

India Strengthens International Sports Presence
The Amdavad 2030 organisers will collaborate with Commonwealth Sport and international federations to finalise a programme of 15-17 sports.
Proposed disciplines include T20 cricket, shooting, hockey, wrestling, judo, rugby sevens, and 3×3 basketball, with the possibility of adding two new sports proposed by the host.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah credited PM Modi for turning India into a global sports hotspot.

India holds a strong history in the Commonwealth Games. The nation won 101 medals, including 38 gold, at the 2010 New Delhi edition. Shooting contributed 30 medals.
In 2022, India won 61 medals, including 22 gold, even though Birmingham did not include shooting.
Ahmedabad becomes the second Indian city and the third in Asia to host the Commonwealth Games. The next edition will take place in Glasgow in 2026. The 2022 Birmingham Games preceded it.
India’s successful bid reflects the country’s commitment to global sports excellence, advanced infrastructure, and inclusive sporting culture.
