Delhi is observing a public holiday today to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, whose unparalleled sacrifice for the protection of faith and human dignity continues to inspire the nation.
The Delhi government upgraded the day from a restricted holiday to a full public holiday to enable citizens to participate in commemorative events and pay tribute to the revered Guru.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision ahead of the three-day ‘Gurmat Samagam’ near the Red Fort, which commenced on Sunday.
In a message shared on X, she said, “May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continue to guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead.” She has been personally supervising the preparations for the grand commemoration.

CM Rekha Gupta Reviews Preparations at Red Fort
CM Gupta recently visited the Red Fort to inspect the ongoing arrangements for the event.
During her review, she assessed preparations related to security, traffic regulation, lighting, crowd management, cleanliness, drinking water, and emergency services.
She directed officials to ensure that all arrangements meet the highest standards so that devotees face no inconvenience.
Ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Kapil Mishra, along with several other dignitaries, joined her during the inspection.
The Red Fort—closely associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur’s supreme sacrifice—is hosting the three-day commemoration from 23 to 25 November.
The programme includes a grand museum featuring rare historical accounts, a special light-and-sound show on the historic ramparts, and Satsang–Kirtan sessions by seven Sangat groups.
The Chief Minister urged people from across Delhi and beyond to participate in this once-in-a-century event.
Uttar Pradesh Also Declares Public Holiday
In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the state government has also declared a public holiday today to honour the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
All government offices, schools, and educational institutions will remain closed across the state in tribute to the Guru’s enduring legacy.
Both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are observing the day with deep devotion and respect, highlighting Guru Tegh Bahadur’s timeless message of protecting righteousness, upholding freedom of conscience, and defending humanity.
The nationwide commemorations aim to remind future generations of the profound values the Guru embodied and the supreme sacrifice he made in their defence.
